For Fans of Large Construction Projects

And that means you, Red!

The University of Las Vegas Libraries have put together a digital collection of photos relating to water and Las Vegas. And what does that mean? Lots of pictures of Hoover Dam! If you click on Browse Images you will see the whole collection of pictures in no particular order. If you pick Hoover Dam from the "Please select a collection" drop down menu at the top of the photo gallery, however, you get pictures from the area before the dam was built, as well as the video "Conquering the Colorado" produced by the Bureau of Reclamation. The narration is of the gung-ho newsreel style, but the footage is totally worth it!

Hoover Dam trivia: Phyllis Wattis, noted SF philanthropist (she was responsible for the SF Youth Symphony, and all those amazing Rauschenbergs at SFMOMA, among other things) apparently spent her honeymoon there, as her husband was one of the construction honchos. As much as I love construction projects, I really think that was going above and beyond the call of duty.
